Two new cards came in today’s post for me, one from Canada  and one from Belarus .

The card from Canada is a flag card, which makes a great new addition to my flag collection. The text on the card reads “The newly designed Canadian flag was flown for the first time on February 15, 1965”. Seeing as that was before my time, there’s no shame in admitting that I don’t actually know what it looked like before.

Thanks so much for the card Draven!

The Mir Castle Complex in Belarus has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000.

Dziakuju Klemochka!

Today’s cards are all different from one another and don’t fit the same categories. So, instead of posting each card individually, I decided to show this colourful mix together in one post.

The first card arrived from Canada  and is a real vintage card. It’s even older than I am, albeit only by a few years (I won’t tell you how many years exactly though 😉 ). It shows a Swedish stamp depicting the portrait of the singer Jenny Lind. The stamp was issued on 25 March 1975 in connection with the International Women’s Year 1975. In fact, wackystuff, who sent me the card, originally posted it to himself from Sweden  in 1976. The postmark is very clear and the exact date on it is 6.6.1976. I am very impressed by this card!

I also received my first card from Brazil  today. It shows the Planetarium in Fortaleza, which is the state capital of Ceará in Northeastern Brazil. Luana, who sent me the card, told me about how Brazil got its name. Basically, the Portuguese named the country after redwood trees, of which there were many, when they arrived in Brazil in 1500. Redwood trees, or Brazilwood as they are also known, are called “Pau-Brasil” in Portuguese. Hence, Brazil.

Muito obrigada para postal LuanaBessa!

This wintery card from Hinterzarten in Germany  arrived today, too. Hinterzarten is a resort village in the Black Forest in Southwestern Germany. It’s mostly famous for its ski jumpers. It looks nice, doesn’t it?

Vielen Dank für die Karte Mondfalke!

A couple of cards from the US  were also among today’s cards. The first arrived from Utah and shows a beautiful autumnal scene.

Thanks so much for this card utahgirl!

usa_0030usa_0031Utahgirl, who sent me this card, chose some really cool stamps for me: two “Vintage Black Cinema” movie poster stamps. The first shows the movie poster for 1921 silent film The Sport of the Gods, based on a novel of the same name by Paul Laurence Dunbar (1872-1906). The second shows the poster for 1929 film Hallelujah!, which earned King Vidor an Academy Award nomination for Best Director.

The second card from the US is an art card, depicting a beautiful painting by Claude Monet (1840–1926).

Domo arigato Chieusa!

usa_0033usa_0032Chieusa also chose very cool stamps for me, namely Marvel Super Heroes stamps. One depicts Wonder Woman (I absolutely love Wonder Woman and couldn’t be happier about receiving this stamp 😀 ), while the other shows Green Arrow. Wow, so many cool stamps in one day!

Last but not least, today’s final card arrived from Ukraine  and shows a lovely view of Lviv in Western Ukraine. The city is regarded as one of the main cultural centres of the country.

Diakuyu tobi dlia lystivka raven!

Even though I “only” received three cards today, they’re all special as each one is my first card from their respective countries.

This beautiful card from Canada  arrived today. It shows Jasper National Park. With 10,878 km2of mountain wilderness, it is the largest national park in the Canadian Rockies. The Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984.

Another beautiful card arrived from slightly warmer climes – Thailand . It shows Khao Lak Beach in Phang-Nga. I wouldn’t mind lying on that beach now or anytime really.

I received another beach card today, one that is much closer to home. It shows a beautiful image of the Isle of Lewis, Scotland . It’s perhaps not the kind of beach you see yourself lying on but I could totally imagine taking a stroll in my wellies. Actually, that’s rather easy to imagine in this weather… 😉
